Service-Learning Proposal Description

1.

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer The Town of Pleasant Valley is looking for a self-motivated person to clean-up and maintain an existing perennial garden. A local resident originally planted the garden in memory of his late wife. Time has passed and the garden now needs tending and on-going care. A majority of the work will be weeding and mulching. After the garden is cleaned up for the spring, then checking on it and weeding every few weeks is all that will be necessary. Fall clean-up is also an option of hours are not fulfilled.

What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer The Town of Pleasant Valley is a municipality straight south of the City of Eau Claire. We are very proud of our park facilities and the history of the area. The goal is to keep our beautiful park looking its absolute best for all to enjoy.

3.

What skills are required for this project? 

Answer cleaning up gardens/weeding/spreading mulch/identifying perennials (guidance will be provided)/self-starter and independent worker.

4.

What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer The objective will be to bring the garden back to the condition which is enjoyable for park visitors to walk the path and enjoy the area. Learning opportunities will be time management, communication, self-motivation, and pride in a beautiful final product for all to enjoy.

5.

What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer Work can be done anytime during daylight hours.

Answer If time permits and the student is interested, there are other projects in the park that could be worked on.
