Service-Learning Proposal Description

1.

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer I am looking for a student to help create an event page for social media and assist with spreading awareness of a community program taking place in the Chippewa Valley. Team One Mile nonprofit organization consisting of a network of over 900 hand selected professional/retired athletes, military members/veterans, authors, coaches, and leaders who will be cycling through Wisconsin September 2024. They will have an event in Eau Claire on September 11th 2024 which will include musicians, speakers, and ceremony honoring all first responders, police, Firefighters, EMS, out of respect for the lives lost on 9/11/01. Proceeds from this event will go to Camp Hometown Heroes, a Wisconsin based organization which provides a free week-long overnight summer camp for children and siblings of fallen U.S. service members.

2.

What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer One Mile Leadership Project is a proactive community of leaders who are focused on showing support, growing awareness, and inspiring action within our community. The primary focus is on those suffering in silence, people suffering from PTSD, addiction, abuse or the invisible thoughts of suicide. Our unique composition of athletes and motivational professionals allows One Mile Leadership Project to offer a global platform of support, where people in leadership positions can exchange thoughts and ideas, while offering proactive, positive support.

3.

What skills are required for this project?

Answer Familiarity with creating events on social media, creating QR codes to be included in print marketing, ability to communicate with area businesses in order to distribute flyers.

4.

What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer This student will complete this project having made a real impact on the lives of the military connected population. They would have a portfolio of work to provide to future employers and a great experience to add to their resume and discuss during interviews. Working with Team One mile, they will gain connections with a very diverse group of heroes from all around the nation.

5.

What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer Two-three hours per week over the course of the project. The initial meeting would need to be more in depth to cover details, goals, timelines, etc., but then after that I foresee the student being able to work 2-3 hours per week over the course of the project with weekly check ins.
