Service-Learning Proposal Description

1.

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer I have a family of a student who is looking for extra support for their child. The student is in second grade and is lower in his academics. I am looking for a college student to come to my classroom one or two days a week to tutor the student in my classroom. This student is also receiving speech/language so if there is a student is this Major, they could connect with his current goals too.

What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer Manz Elementary Mission Statement: Dedicated to preparing ALL students to become lifelong learners, caring individuals, and responsible citizens in a diverse society.

3.

What skills are required for this project? 

Answer Preparing lessons/materials to practice with the student, being able to keep the student focused and learning, have fun and build rapport with the student.

4.

What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer -Practice current reading, writing, and math skills. -Gain extra practice and fluency with 2nd grade concepts

5.

What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer Mornings from 8:00-8:30 am either Monday, Wednesday, or Thursday mornings. Possibly two days a week depending on availability/hours of this project to be completed before the end of the school year.

6.

Answer College student will need to fill out a background check and intent form from Manz.
