Service-Learning Proposal Description

1.

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer Serve at local Head Start 4K preschools to assist in the classroom and provide one one-on-one support to a child who needs school readiness and social-emotional support.

What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer ECLIPSE is an AmeriCorps program that focuses on early childhood literacy in Eau Claire and Altoona. Educational focus areas include language, emergent reading & writing, socialization, and interaction. ECLIPSE differentiates from other literacy programs because we work from a one-on-one model tailored to individual needs, preparing each child for lifelong learning, while also embracing the different paces at which children learn to foster continual growth in education.

What skills are required for this project? 

Answer Enjoy being around preschool-age children, eager to help young children learn school readiness skills and willing to learn how to create activities that help young children learn skills to be ready for school.

4.

What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer To partner one on one with children who need support to be ready for school. Provide classroom assistance in a preschool setting.

5.

What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer UWEC students need to be available 8:30 - 4:00 pm. Students can select the times they will serve but it needs to be completed during the preschool hours of operation.

Answer UWEC students will need to complete a background check.
