Service-Learning Proposal Description


Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer The Y provides many sports programs for the community with basketball being very popular. As a non-profit, in order to keep costs low so all youth/ adults have the opportunity to participate in sports we seek volunteer scorekeepers to help offset the costs of the program for each child. We have sessions running all year long and are always looking for volunteers to help whether you seek 15 or 30 hrs.


What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all. Guided by our core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility, the Y is dedicated to giving people of all ages, backgrounds and walks of life the opportunity to reach their full potential with dignity.


What skills are required for this project? 

Answer - Some knowledge of basketball - Ability to follow the score of a basketball game


What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer - Learn about how the Y helps the community - learn how every role in sports in important in a community setting


What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer Youth/Women's: Summer- 5-8pm on Thursdays Men's: Fall1-Sept 12-Oct 24th 6-10pm Thursdays Fall 2- Oct- 31- Dec 19 6-10pm Thursday Schedule is flexible depending on the hours of student needs and hours available.
