Service-Learning Proposal Description

1.

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer The Y provides many sports programs for the community with Sports Tykes being one of the most popular. These programs provide sports introduction skills and play based activities to children ages 3-5. As a non-profit, in order to keep costs low so all children have the opportunity to participate in sports we seek volunteers to help offset the costs of the program for each child. We have sessions running all year long and are always looking for volunteers to help whether you seek 15 or 30 hrs.

What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all. Guided by our core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility, the Y is dedicated to giving people of all ages, backgrounds and walks of life the opportunity to reach their full potential with dignity.

3.

What skills are required for this project? 

Answer - Basic knowledge of basketball, soccer, and t-ball. - Ability to work with children ages 3-5. -Athleticism - Outgoing Personality -Ability to Engage with young children

What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer - Learn how the Y helps the community - Learn how to implement sports instruction for kids

What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer Evenings throughout the year between 5-7pm, contact Sports Director for exact dates and times.
