Service-Learning Proposal Description

1.

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer The Y provides many sports programs for the community with Gymnastics being one of the most popular. As a non-profit, in order to keep costs low so all children have the opportunity to participate in sports we seek volunteers to help with Toddler classes through progressives to help offset the costs of the program for each child. We have sessions running all year long and classes of all types and are always looking for volunteers to help whether you seek 15 or 30 hrs. The gymnastics area also gets very dusty with chalk and always needs a good cleaning, we also seek volunteers to help with this task.

What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all. Guided by our core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility, the Y is dedicated to giving people of all ages, backgrounds and walks of life the opportunity to reach their full potential with dignity.

3.

What skills are required for this project? 

Answer - Knowledge of gymnastics - experience with gymnastics or cheerleading - Ability to work with children ages 3-15 -Athleticism -Ability to engage toddlers- preteens

4.

What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer - Learn how the Y helps the community - Learn how to implement gymnastics classes - Learn skills on coaching gymnastics - Help provide a clean environment for our students

5.

What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer Classes are offered M-F during the summer months Mornings through the evening. During the School year, M-F & Sunday, mornings and evenings.
