Service-Learning Proposal Description

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer At Girls on the Run Chippewa Valley, teaching essential life skills is the cornerstone of our research-based programs. Trained volunteer coaches facilitate lessons that blend physical activity with life skill development, including managing emotions, fostering friendships, and expressing empathy. Girls on the Run inspires individuals of all abilities to discover, build, and grow their self-confidence. Together, they experience a sense of belonging and connection as a team. Volunteer coaches facilitate lessons that blend physical activity with life skill development, including managing emotions, fostering friendships, and expressing empathy. At the end of the season, the team completes a Community Impact Project and a 5K together, which provides a tangible sense of accomplishment and sets a confident mindset into motion.

What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer Girls on the Run® is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization designed to enhance participants' social, emotional and physical skills to successfully navigate life experiences. Our fun, interactive lessons meet the unique needs of participants of all abilities and backgrounds. Mission: We inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. Vision: We envision a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams.

What skills are required for this project? 

Answer Girls on the Run coaches are trained volunteers who lead a team of participants through a season of powerful and fun lessons. You do not need to be a runner; you simply need to have a desire to support and encourage the next generation. Coaches receive all the tools and support they need and find that they get as much out of coaching as they give.

4.

What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer -Get to know and understand your co-coaches to better serve your team. -Have fun while serving as a role model for program participants. -Review, prepare and supervise lessons (curriculum and all supplies provided by Girls on the Run). -Collaborate with other coaches for successful lesson delivery.

5.

What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer All Camp GOTR volunteers of Girls on the Run -Complete a registration form found on our website -Undergo a rigorous background check -Finish national coach training which is 6-8 hours of on-line training Must be completed by February 21 -Must commit to attending all Girls on the Run sessions
