Service-Learning Proposal Description

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer At Girls on the Run Chippewa Valley, teaching essential life skills is the cornerstone of our research-based programs. Trained volunteer coaches facilitate lessons that blend physical activity with life skill development, including managing emotions, fostering friendships, and expressing empathy. Each season comes to an end with a celebratory 5K. This closing event gives program participants of all abilities a tangible sense of accomplishment. Crossing the finish line instills confidence through completion and is a joyful moment program participants always remember! Everyone in our program receives a commemorative medal to celebrate this incredible achievement.

What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer Girls on the Run® is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization designed to enhance participants' social, emotional and physical skills to successfully navigate life experiences. Our fun, interactive lessons meet the unique needs of participants of all abilities and backgrounds. Mission: We inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. Vision: We envision a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams.

What skills are required for this project? 

Answer We are looking for candidates with excellent communication skills who have an internal drive to complete tasks in a timely manner. Our candidates must be able to work at their own pace, and occasionally attend planning meetings. We are seeking volunteers who can work hard and have a ton of fun planning and implementing a joyful, celebratory 5K!

What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer -Get to know and understand Girls on the Run and the 5K planning team to better serve your team. -Assist with the planning and implementation of a 5K on May 10 in Eau Claire’s Carson Park. Duties will include but are not limited to: communicating with key stake holders, soliciting businesses for donations, soliciting the community for volunteers, securing services for the 5K, taking pictures and other documentations at the 5K, assisting where needed at the 5K for the entire event.

What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer All volunteers of Girls on the Run -Complete a registration form found on our website -Undergo a rigorous background check -Must commit to attending most committee meetings -Must commit to full attendance for the 5K, May 10, 6am-2pm
