Service-Learning Proposal Description

1.

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer Western Dairyland's housing department works with other agencies in the community to complete our homeless Point in Time count and after PIT event on January 22nd and 23rd. We have weekly meetings for planning, organizing, and brainstorming ideas to reach the most unhoused individuals we can. There are many tasks associated with this, but can include printing and sorting housing packets, connecting with outside agencies, and setting up for and attending the events themselves.

2.

What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer Western Dairyland's mission is to alleviate poverty related conditions and provide opportunities which enable people to advance economically and socially.

3.

What skills are required for this project?

Answer Effective communication skills. Any other required skills will be taught at Western Dairyland.

4.

What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer Students can learn more about the needs of unhoused individuals in the area, what support networks are in place, and what it is like to work with a disadvantaged population.

5.

What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer Western Dairyland is open Monday through Friday from 8:00AM-4:30PM. Students are able to fit as many hours as they want, wherever they would like to within that time range.

6.

Additional information (not required).

Answer Western Dairyland relies on the help of volunteers to do what we do. We strongly appreciate all you do in the community.
