Service-Learning Proposal Description

1.

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer We are a non-profit organization that serves teens facing adversity (foster care, juvenile detention, negative mental health, etc.) By joining our In-School Support Group Team you would be meeting a need of facilitating groups centered around promoting positive emotional and mental health, building resiliency, and creating community. Our groups focus on three truths we desire for teens to believe about themselves: I am loveable, capable, and worthwhile. I'm loved without strings and never alone. I have a future. Co-facilitate Support Groups of 6-8 teens. Training required and provided.

What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer Our mission is to end hopelessness.

What skills are required for this project? 

Answer Group facilitation. Conflict management. Teaching.

4.

What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer Help teens learn to give and receive support. Help teens expand their emotional vocabulary. Help teens process through daily emotions in a group setting.

What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer During the school hours: TBD

Additional information (not required).

Answer Volunteers are required to fill out an application, meet for an interview, fill out a background check and go through 4 hours of initial training as well as continued monthly training to be able to help lead support groups.
