Service-Learning Proposal Description

Briefly describe the project and the community to be addressed.
Answer The service learning project will be "Creating a Successful Fundraiser." Students are needed to help with games, waivers, registration, huge picnic, and lots of planning and organizing for this event. Our Stroll in the Park for Epilepsy is an annual 1.5 mile walk around the zoo animal cages and path. It is held on May 12th, 2018 at Irvine Park in Chippewa Falls. This event has grown from 80 to 700 attendees in its 25 years it has been held. The attendees are from babies to grandmas and the pledges and donations brought in to this event helps us provide services for our families and clients who deal with the challenges of epilepsy. Stroller can walk alone or build a team and there are incentive prizes that brings in a little bit of competition. We have begun the planning and we need students to help us proceed with their ideas, expertise, and energy to help us make this the best success ever! This is open to the public and it is a great opportunity to learn about epilepsy, and seizures and how impacts peoples lives yet bands them together.

What is the mission of the agency or organization?
Answer The Epilepsy Foundation of Western Wisconsin is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving life opportunities for people living with epilepsy and serves over 14,000 individuals and families affected by epilepsy in our 22 county service area. Our mission is to lead the fight to overcome the challenges of living with epilepsy and to accelerate therapies to stop seizures, find cures, and save lives.

What skills are required for this project?
Answer The skills we are looking for is to be "people person," thinking outside the box, being computer savy, helping and creating new marketing ideas with our social media and our website. We are looking for someone who is knowledgeable with data bases, spread sheets, good with xcel and other programs. We may need creative ideas for research in finding corporate sponsorships for this event. We need help with new thoughts and new ideas to make this a profitable, popular, area event that not only gets the word out about our Foundation but also helps support all the people with epilepsy.

What are the objectives for the student learning and service?
Answer The objectives are learning about what the process is to make any fundraiser work. It is also the most important objective to learn about epilepsy, how it changes peoples lives, and why this Stroll is so very important for each and everyone who attends. With the help of the student to watch this grow and with their help and creativity and energy make this a great success that they will carry with them throughout their lives.

What are the availability requirements for the student?
Answer The student needs to be available during our work hours, Monday-Friday which are 8:30- 5. As we get closer to the event, we will need availability on the Saturday of the event which can be from 8-1 and possibly other evening times. We work well with students hours and transportation would be desired but not required.
