Service-Learning Proposal Description

1.

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer The Jam is a life-giving music community for at-risk teens in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. The Jam programming equips students to engage in positive community at a social level through music through engagement with local artists and hands-on jam sessions in an encouraging and uplifting environment. This project involves capture and editing of photo and video media for the promotion of the program.

What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer At The Jam, we want teens to discover their creative voice and learn to share it with the world.

3.

What skills are required for this project? 

Answer Required skills: A positive attitude, a heart for music and youth, and a passion for photography and videography. Access to photo and video editing software would be benificial.

What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer During this project, the student will: -Apply their artistic skills in a setting which allows them to give back to the community -Experience the dynamics of a start-up organization while exploring their own entrepreneurial spirit -Learn how community can be established in diversity, and witness the importance of community art and inter-organizational collaboration to ennoble and unify people

5.

What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer The student must be able to commit to 15 hours of work between the project start and end date. This time will be divided between occasional Thursday evenings at the programming location in downtown Eau Claire, and any location the student wishes to complete their editing work. The student must be available to communicate with the project supervisor at reasonable intervals during the project.

Answer There are additional opportunities inside the organization, including, but not limited to: marketing and communications, event organization, audio recording, post production, as well as Jam facilitation support staff (working directly with the youth on Jam nights in a musical and relational capacity).
