Service-Learning Proposal Description

1.

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer Caterpillar Lab volunteers will help manage our Monarch caterpillars. Duties include cleaning their enclosures, supplying fresh milkweed, and reporting number of eggs and caterpillars we have in the lab. Volunteers may also educate visitors the Monarch life cycle and release newly emerged butterflies into the Butterfly House.

Answer Connecting people with nature.

What skills are required for this project? 

Answer Show up on time for their scheduled shift, ability to work with the public, and stand for short periods of time.

What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer To gain knowledge on Monarch butterflies and their life cycle.

5.

What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer Volunteer shifts are Monday-Sunday and depend on the number of caterpillars in the lab. Shifts may run from 30 min-2 hours. Volunteers may choose their own shifts and hours.
