Service-Learning Proposal Description

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer Mentoring provides an opportunity for [adult] mentors and [student] mentees to connect over common interests and experiences, build a relationship, and support each other in times of need. This solid foundation enables mentors to empower their mentees to be their very best self! Mentoring matches meet one-on-one, at school, one day per week, for 30-minutes. The program operates September-May, during regular school hours. We currently serve students in the Chippewa Falls Area Unified School District as well as the School District of the Menomonie Area.

What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer Mentor Chippewa in partnership with the communities we serve, is committed to strengthening students' social and emotional growth and well-being through one-on-one mentoring matches with caring and responsible role models.

What skills are required for this project?

Answer Mentors need the ability to actively listen and engage with their mentee student. Mentors must be dependable and responsible to come to their scheduled mentoring day on time. Mentors will need their own transportation to and from the school site.

What are the objectives for the student learning and service?

Answer We believe that by matching our mentee students with positive adult role models, we can empower them to become their very best selves and in turn: Give them hope for the present and vision for the future. Encourage them to work toward goals and help them believe they can be successful. Empower them to see themselves as valued and positively contributing members of the community. Connect them to community people of all ages through a mutually beneficial and rewarding relationship.

What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer Mentors must be available to meet with a youth mentee for 30-minutes during the regular school day, during the regular school year (October - May). The specific day and time are set per the mentor and mentee's schedule.

Additional information (not required).

Answer Mentor applications are accepted all year long and matches are made all throughout the school year.
