Service-Learning Proposal Description

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer DeLong Middle School is library is a busy place, with lots of daily tasks and bigger projects going on this school year. Volunteers are needed to help with shelving books, barcoding media items, repairs to books, preparing books for Friends of the Library Sale, and our big project of processing books with genre and color code labels. By volunteering you would be making a impact on the availability of our students and staff to find the reading and other materials quickly. Reading and using the resources in the library has a direct correlation to the success of students overall at school. We are in need of multiple volunteers.

What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer DeLong Middle School serves grades six, seven, and eight and is one of three public middle schools in the Eau Claire Area School District. With a population of nearly 1100, our school's student body comes from the north, south, and west sides of the Eau Claire community. The location of the school allows the DeLong staff to serve a diverse population. DeLong hosts the English-As-A-Second Language and cognitively disabled programs for middle grade students within the district. Middle level educational concepts such as interdisciplinary teams, houses, and common planning times for instructors are put to excellent use by DeLong teachers and other staff.
