Terms of Service | 2016-09-21 05:07PM

By accessing and using your Service-Learning Account and related Services provided by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (UWEC), you accept and agree to be bound by these Terms of Service (TOS).  In addition, when using these Services, including your Service-Learning Account, you will be subject to any posted guidelines or rules applicable to such Services, which may be posted here and modified from time to time.  All such guidelines or rules are hereby incorporated into these TOS.

Any use of your Service-Learning Account and related Services will constitute acceptance of this agreement.  If you do not agree to abide by These terms, please do not use these services.

General Terms of Use and Intellectual Rights

Don’t misuse our Services. For example, don’t interfere with our Services or try to access them using a method other than the interface and the instructions that we (UWEC) provide. You may use our Services only as permitted by law, including applicable export and re-export control laws and regulations. We may suspend or stop providing our Services to you if you do not comply with our terms or policies or if we are investigating suspected misconduct.

All copyright and intellectual rights within this Service remain the property of their creator. By posting content to our Services you grant UWEC unlimited reuse of that content. Using our Services does not give you ownership of any intellectual property rights in our Services or the content you access. You may not use Content from our Services unless you obtain permission from its owner or are otherwise permitted by law. These terms do not grant you the right to use any branding or logos used in our Services. Don’t remove, obscure, or alter any legal notices displayed in or along with our Services.

Your UWEC Service-Learning Account

You will need either an account issued through UWEC or an account provided though this website in order to use some of our Services. If you create your own account, it MUST be associated with a Community Partner. You may be associated with a Community Partner that is assigned to you by an administrator, or from using a token provided by a UWEC Service-Learning administrator or another user in your institution to join. If you are using a UWEC Service-Learning Account assigned to you by an administrator, different or additional terms may apply and your administrator may be able to access or disable your UWEC Service-Learning Account.  UWEC is not responsible for any additional terms that may be applied by your administrator.

To protect your UWEC Service-Learning Account, keep your password confidential. You are responsible for the activity that happens on or through your account. Try not to reuse your UWEC Service-Learning Account password on third-party applications. If you learn of any unauthorized use of your password or account, please contact the UWEC Service-Learning center right away either at srvlearn@uwec.edu or 715-836-4649.

Student Projects and the Student Role

Beginning Your Project

As a student, you agree to locate a service-learning project that is meaningful and beneficial to the community you are serving. You are responsible for contacting a community partner supervisor before you begin your Service-Learning to communicate and determine the specifics of your project.  You also agree to contact a faculty or academic staff mentor about a mentor-approved reflection that you will be required to complete at the end of your project.  The specific details of this reflection will be at your mentor’s discretion.

During Your Project

You will need to complete all parts of your project(s) along all stages for your project to be counted for Service-Learning. This work includes filling out a pre-survey that is required before you can submit your project for review.

Emails are provided at your convenience throughout this process; however, we are not responsible if these emails are lost or not delivered.  You are still responsible for returning to the UWEC Service-Learning Projects website to check the status of your project(s) and take care of any pending actions that may be present.

Completing Your Project

When you have finished your project in the community, you are responsible for scheduling a time to reflect with your faculty or academic staff mentor.  This reflection is required before your project can be considered for Service-Learning.  You must also complete the post-survey in your Service-Learning Account after your mentor has finalized your project.

Community Partner Role

The Service-Learning projects provided for UWEC students must be meaningful in order for those projects to fulfill the Service-Learning graduation requirement.

If you are a Community Partner that takes on the role of a Supervisor, you are responsible for communicating with the student before the project begins, as well as continuing communication throughout the project. You will also use the UWEC Service-Learning Projects Application to approve the student’s project. As a supervisor, it is your responsibility to keep track of the hours a student completes with your organization. After the project is complete, you will return to the UWEC Service-Learning Application to evaluate the student’s service with your organization.

Mentor Role

As a Mentor, you must communicate with the student before the Service-Learning project begins and encourage the student to fill out the UWEC Service-Learning Projects application as soon as reasonably possible. As a mentor you should assist the student (as needed) in establishing learning outcomes for their service-learning project.

By accepting the role of Mentor in a given project, it is your responsibility to log into the UWEC Service-Learning Projects application to approve the student’s project, review the student’s evaluation, and to complete the student’s project following a reflection activity with the student.

Your Content in Our Services

Some of our Services allow you to submit, store, send, or receive Content. You retain ownership of any intellectual property rights that you hold in that Content. In short, what belongs to you stays yours.

When you submit, store, send or receive Content to or through our Services, you give UWEC a worldwide license to use, host, store, reproduce, modify, create derivative works (such as those resulting from translations, adaptations, or other changes we make so that your Content works better with our Services), communicate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display, and distribute such content. The rights you grant in this license are for the limited purpose of operating, promoting, and improving our Services, and to develop new ones. This license continues even if you stop using our Services. Some Services may offer you ways to access and remove Content that has been provided to that Service. Make sure you have the necessary rights to grant us this license for any Content that you submit to our Services.

Our automated systems analyze your Content (including emails) to provide you personally relevant product features, such as notifications for project status. This analysis occurs as the Content is sent, received, and when it is stored.

If you have a UWEC Service-Learning Account, we may display your Profile name and any actions you take on this site within other applications connected to the UWEC Service-Learning Projects.

Modifying and Terminating Our Services

We are constantly changing and improving our Services. We may add or remove functionalities or features, and we may suspend or stop a Service altogether.

You can stop using our Services at any time, although we’ll be sorry to see you go. UWEC may also stop providing Services to you, or add or create new limits to our Services at any time.

Our Warranties and Disclaimers

We provide our Services using a reasonable level of skill and care, and we hope that you will enjoy using them. But there are certain things that we don’t promise about our Services.

OTHER THAN AS EXPRESSLY SET OUT IN THESE TERMS OR ADDITIONAL TERMS, NEITHER UWEC NOR ITS SUPPLIERS OR DISTRIBUTORS MAKE ANY SPECIFIC PROMISES ABOUT THE SERVICES. FOR EXAMPLE, WE DON’T MAKE ANY COMMITMENTS ABOUT THE CONTENT WITHIN THE SERVICES, THE SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS OF THE SERVICES, OR THEIR RELIABILITY, AVAILABILITY, OR ABILITY TO MEET YOUR NEEDS. WE PROVIDE THE SERVICES “AS IS.”

SOME JURISDICTIONS PROVIDE FOR CERTAIN WARRANTIES, LIKE THE IMPLIED WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE EXCLUDE ALL WARRANTIES.

Liability for Our Services

IN ALL CASES, UWEC, AND ITS SUPPLIERS AND DISTRIBUTORS, WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY LOSS OR DAMAGE OF INFORMATION USED IN THIS SERVICE.

About These Terms

We may modify these terms or any additional terms that apply to a Service to, for example, reflect changes to the law or changes to our Services. You should look at the Terms regularly. We’ll post notice of modifications to these Terms on this page. We’ll post notice of modified additional Terms in the applicable Service. In order to continue using our Services, you will have to agree to any changes to these Terms of Service. All changes posted here will be effective immediately. If you do not agree to the modified Terms for a Service, you should discontinue your use of that Service.

If there is a conflict between these Terms and the additional Terms, the additional Terms will take precedence for that conflict.

These Terms control the relationship between UWEC Service-Learning Projects and you. They do not create any third-party beneficiary rights.

If you do not comply with these Terms, and we don’t take action right away, this doesn’t mean that we are giving up any rights that we may have (such as taking action in the future).

If it turns out that a particular Term is not enforceable, this will not affect any other Terms. If you have any questions or concerns regarding these terms, please contact Service-Learning at srvlearn@uwec.edu.
